John graduated from the University of Huddersfield in 2015 with a 2:1 in English Literature and Music and has been writing and tutoring ever since. Whilst he volunteered as an editorial and press assistant for a number of music companies, he took on a part time role tutoring KS2/3 English. It uncovered an infectious joy for teaching and educating, and John was soon tutoring for the 11+ entrance exams, on a full time basis. For the last academic year John has been helping his students prepare for exams in the Trafford borough and has developed a tireless interest to help make learning fun and rewarding.
John has been a passionate creative writer and a lover of music since he was nine. Winning the “Ian North Creative Writing Award” in Year 6, and performing in a number of orchestras, talent shows and Musician of the Year competitions, his early interests helped him follow his aspirations. He first took a liking to the violin at age 10, before picking up the guitar, bass, piano, and cello, amongst other instruments.
In his spare time, John helps promote live music events around Manchester’s biggest venues and has helped sell out tours for a variety of funk and soul bands and international talents from The Haggis Horns, Buffalo Brothers and Red Eye Hi-Fi. When he has time between writing and tutoring, John can either be found frequenting the open mics and jam nights of Manchester, or at one of his resident nights as a Funk & Soul disc jockey.
